Ostruzna

The municipality of Ostruzna was established in 1561. It is located between Hanušovice and Jesenik, 700-950 meters above sea level, at the interface of two mountain ranges, the Rychleb Mountains and the Hrubý Jesenik Mountains.

The municipality has a train station, a bus stop, a fire station, a grocery store, several pubs and restaurants, and the District Hall for Ostruzna and parts of Petrikov and Ramzova. The wind electric company Wenergo has six wind turbines on the hills in the direction of Branna.

The village of Ostruzna with parts of Petrikov and Ramzova has 152 permanent residents.

Thanks to natural conditions this area is the ideal recreational center for both summer and winter activities. The area became a favorite hiking and skiing center after a cable chair lift from Ramzová to Serak and ski lifts in Petrikov and Ostruzna were built. In the summer the area offers ideal conditions for hiking, cycle touring, and mushroom and wild blueberry picking. There are many tips for trips to the surrounding areas – monuments and places of interest, beautiful natural sites, swimming and sports. In the winter months Ostruzna is a center for winter sports, offering both downhill and cross-country skiing; there are 10 ski lifts available.

Ramzova, a local part of Ostruzna, and previously called Ramsau, was established in 1786. It takes its name from one of the directors of the bishop’s estate, Ramsa. Ramzova is the town at the highest altitude in the Czech Republic with a fast-train stop.

Petrikov, a local part of Ostruzna, previously known as Peterswald, was established in 1617. The name was based on founder Hanuš Petrvaldsky.

Many species of animals live in the local forests: red deer, roe deer, wild boar, hares; in the Serak and Keprnik areas there are mountain goats that were brought from the Austrian Alps at the beginning of the previous century.

The Jeseník Regional Protected Area was established in 1969 and includes the Hruby Jesenik mountain zone and parts of the Zlatohorske Highlands. The most popular natural beauty is the Hruby Jesenik ridge stretching from Ramzova through Serak, Keprnik, Cervenohorske Sedlo, to the highest peak in Moravia and Silesia, Praded (1491 meters above sea level). Heavily visited is the educational trail Rejviz with the lake Velke Mechove.

The climate and position of the wide Bele a Starice River valleys in the Jesenik area created conditions for the origin of the natural world-renowned spas. Jesenik Spa (Gräfenberg) and nearby Dolni Lipova Spa carry on the tradition dating to the 19th century. A children’s medical center is located in the former Schweiburg Sanitarium.
